The Wise Men Build Their House Upon the Rock!

We've been studying rocks and had the opportunity to visit a local rock quarry. I was very impressed with the program that included cookies and juice, a short movie, an extensive rock display showing everyday uses for rocks (make-up, toothpastes, etc...)complete with dinosaur poop (that rock above Jill's head), free hats, a view of the quarry and the sorters, and an up close look at some really big trucks!Beth and a slightly unsure Jill in the wheel well of a hauler that can carry rock or 35 elephants, whatever you have handy.
Adam in front of the cab of the hauler. All the children in the front loader (except Adam who said it was too big for him.)It was a fun field trip and quite the learning experience but the real reason we're studying rocks is to understand why Jesus should be our Rock! "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who builds his house upon the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25

Spring Haircuts

The boys were first. Jason has an amazing head of hair - super thick! As soon as it starts getting warm, his head starts, well...sweating...a lot! I love his hair long and full and soft but it gets too hot so off it goes! Adam was also ready for a cut. His hair isn't as thick but it was getting long! His cut was a big shock to the rest of us. I've never buzzed it before. He looks sooo different. It really took us days to stop the double takes. Now it's Beth's turn. She shocked me by asking for short hair like her cousins Mina and Ella. I wasn't going to do it. I really didn't think I could do it well. It's one thing to trim a girl's hair or to use clippers on the boys but an actual major cut, I didn't think I was up for the challenge...and I didn't know if I'd like it short! All that said, I decided last night for no apparent reason to just do it! So a week after the boy's got their summer haircuts, Beth got hers... I have to admit - I love it! I like little girls to have long pretty hair (I always had long hair growing up) but she doesn't like ponytails or clips, and she has much finer hair than I did. So maybe, just maybe this will be a better cut for her hair. Time will tell...

Adam's Birthday

Adam is 4 years old!!! The day before his birthday we went to dinner (Chik-fil-A) with friends. It was Galactic Night. Adam was thrilled to have all these Star Wars characters talking to him and taking pictures with him. We couldn't have planned better! After dinner we headed to our friend's house for cake. This is Adam's "A" cake made special by his daddy (just don't look at the "cake plate." An old cookie sheet was the only thing big enough!)We also made cupcakes for Adam to bring to Sunday School the next morning (his actual birthday) but unfortunately he woke up with a stomach bug! He spent the day on the couch...We did manage to decorate and bring his presents out while he was napping. What a surprise to wake up and be surrounded by streamers, pictures of him, and presents. We even put streamers on the fan!
He was feeling better and enjoyed opening his presents. "Look, Daddy! It's Wall-E!" Cool, a big boy scooter! Woo-hoo!
We thought his birthday was over but Adam said he was still 3. We weren't sure what he was waiting for but later that week we had visitors...When Grandpa Al & Anja came to visit bringing gifts and a dinner outing, he finally decided he was 4.Happy 4th Birthday, Adam! I'm glad that you don't want to grow up too fast. We love you and all God has created you to be! Keep giggling!
