My Mini-CA-Roadtrip

A family friend had some tons of school books to pass on to me as she prepares for retirement.  All I had to do was drive up north and pick them up.  So on a Friday night my best gal pal Stephanie and I took her car and drove and drove and drove.  We spent the night in a hotel, picked up the books and videos and posters and wow, lots of fun stuff!  And then we headed home with no schedule, no children, and no plan.
Stop number one: lunch in Morro Bay
We ended up at the Morro Bay Aquarium
It was small and cheesy but had the cutest Sea Lions and one sweet Harbor Seal
We continued south and enjoyed seeing horses, cows and even a cowboy.
And of course we had to stop for some pea soup.
We even bought some cans and brought them to my mom on our final stop before finally arriving back home....26 hours after we left home.

Camping Beach Day

Camping included a day at the local beach with friends.
There was lots of boogie boarding and body surfing.
And even some Frisbee throwing.
Possibly my favorite part of the day was watching the dads play.  These working men don't get to take their kids to the beach often.  I'm pretty sure Andrew spent more time in the water than out of the water playing with the kids, teaching them to body surf...(that's him and Jason)
And well...being a kid himself.
There was also a lot of sand play going on.
 Sand crab catching, and
 probably some sand eating, too.
Multiple children were buried in sand...

It was a wonderful day at the beach and a perfect way to round out our camping weekend!
Jill and her tent on the beach :)

Summer Camping with friends

On our list of things to do this summer - CAMPING!
We planned with some friends from church in hopes of creating an annual family camping trip.
We were the first to arrive and successfully set up two tents.
We did wait for Daddy to arrive for fire building.
The fire was a big success...and probably the most anticipated part of the weekend!
We used it to make hot dogs...

and of course - S'MORES!
This girl made my s'more, so perfectly yummy!
And this girl celebrated her birthday with a birthday s'more :)
When not eating, the children found ways to entertain themselves...
It mostly involved climbing

...and just being silly with friends.
Looking forward to next year!!!

...and oh yeah, there was also a day at the beach.  Pics in the next post...
